The Catch on TV

It seems like no time at all since I first heard that my thriller The Catch was going to be adapted for television.

And now it’s here: a four-part drama on Channel 5 starting on 25th January 2023 and running for four weeks, every Wednesday at 9pm, with catch-up available on My5. I’m so excited to see the story come to life on the small screen!

It’s been fascinating to see The Catch move from book to TV, from early conversations with the screenwriter Michael Crompton to watching a full cast script read-through on Zoom, and then actually visiting the set last summer to watch a day of filming.

Coming so soon after the adaptation of The Holiday, which was first screened in March 2022, I feel incredibly lucky to have had two TV shows on air within the space of a year.

I wasn’t able to watch The Holiday being filmed in Malta because of quarantine restrictions at the time, so I was very excited to get the chance to see BAFTA-winner Jason Watkins in action on the set of The Catch – and it goes without saying that he is completely brilliant in the role of Ed Collier.

There are some cosmetic changes to the story, such as the setting – whereas the book was set in Nottingham and the Derbyshire Peak District, the TV adaptation places Ed and his family on the south coast. Likewise with his profession, Ed is now a man who makes his living from the sea.

But the core of the story is the same: a father meets his daughter’s new partner for the first time, and very quickly becomes suspicious of the younger man’s motives, his background, of the sheen of perfection that seems to dazzle everyone else around him. Because everyone else thinks Ryan is the ultimate catch…

I’ll be settling down with my family on Wednesday nights to watch The Catch – and I hope you’ll be watching too! As ever, let me know what you think on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, where you can find me @tmloganauthor.
